CUSTOMER BIKE - ' 91 Pinarello Treviso BY KLAASSEN

PINARELLO TREVISO BY KLAASSEN - A major project, we have restored this first owner ‘91 Pinarello Treviso, including some By Klaassen improvements.

▪️Completely new paintwork, in a slightly more characterful version of the traditional Blu Notte.
Combined with new original decals.
The classic Campagnolo groupset and other chrome parts have been thoroughly cleaned and refurbished where necessary. We found and fitted new correct hoods.
Everything is re-greased.

▪️Styling:
The Klaassen signature (better harmony and connection) has been implemented through the white accents, extended to the top (handlebar leather wrap and saddle - a new version of the legendary #turbo saddle) and down to the high end clincher tyres with white tyre sidewalls.

The aero seatpost used to be black, clashing with the rest of the bike’s chrome parts. So we gave the seat post the same colour as the frame.
To complete the By Klaassen treatment we added a signature stylish chrome bottle cage.

Een mooie afsluiter!

Als klein fietsmerk uitgekozen worden voor hét dreambike ‘feature’ artikel van het gerenommeerde Duitse Rennrad was al erg mooi. Met de Klaassen Razor Multipurpose kwamen we daarmee in een select gezelschap van ‘premium big brand’ fietsen (Storck, Scott, Festka, etc.) die meestal 2 of 3x meer kosten (Duurste: €18.990,-)!

Maar Rennrad heeft er ook mee gereden en als kers op de taart kunnen we nu ook hun oordeel/rapport (Engels aan rechterkant) over de Klaassen Razor Multipurpose delen! Iets wat wij en vele Klaassen rijders natuurlijk al wisten, maar mooi deze bevestiging, in meerdere opzichten!

�� A perfect finish!
It was already special as a small bike brand to be selected for a dreambike feature article of renowned magazine Rennrad, in a very select group with big brand premium bikes (Storck, Scott, Festka, etc.) ranging from €8-18.000. But German leading magazine Rennrad also put it to the test, see their verdict. (English on the right side)! That’s a fine report :)

BIG NEWS - from all the bikes in the world, our @classified.cc powered Klaassen Razor Multipurpose has been selected and chosen by Classified and German leading magazine Rennrad for an upcoming article on Dreambikes! �� Quite special for a bike from a certain brand format instead of a one-off fully custom bike.

~1974 Gazelle Champion Mondial By Klaassen edition

In this Restomodding By Klaassen concept we work from our vision:

Respect for the past(!) but with improved looks from the eye of a stylist/designer. As most of the bikes from the past had some flaws due to commercial interests, lack of creativity/guts/phantasy or lack of (total) vision and designer skills. Discover and uncover, Harmony and 'Less is more' do the By Klaassen magic. But restomodding is not only visual, also the technical area is improved.

What we did:

Upgrading the drivetrain two generations to an indexed version.

Quite a challlenge as this frame is from a generation that makes for different (no) mountings etc. And here the frame was just a bare frame, so no clamps, bearings, dropout adjusters, etc, etc.

Style vision: Silver alu grey (instead of chrome) was a main theme, suiting the original paint finish and patina very well. This focus is applied all the way, from wheels to handlebar.

We were able to create and compose a lovely combo.

Klaassen signature also in the matching upper and lower part (color saddle/handlebar wrap and tire sidewall)

RESULTING IN:

⚡We improved the ride

Better shifting, lighter components, wider tires on a nice classic profiled ('aero') Mavic CXP 10 & Gipiemme hubs handbuilt wheelset.

⚡We created a lovely wholesame, characterfull riding machine, in looks and performance.

~1984 Gazelle Champion Mondial Randonneur (ST) By Klaassen edition

RestoModding at its best for this almost 40 years old Gazelle Champion Mondial 'Supertoerder' (531 ST).

In this Restomodding By Klaassen concept we work from our vision:

Context:

After almost 40 years of adventures all over the world, even to Africa and Asia, the owner asked us to give it the By Klaassen Magic. He fell in love with cycling again and wants to use this bike to it's full potential (again).

What we did:

-After inspecting the bike and it's parts we first make a new design from a 'total design' point of view, more holistic.

RESULTING IN

-a new characterful Klaassen frame color (here: mysterious metallic greenblue in gloss finish)

-bring more harmony in all the parts, with now the focus on silver/chrome

-We redesigned the decal set > bring the original logo's back to 1 color (beige/cream), in line with the overall secondary color of the bike > we simplified the decal set (less is more).

-We liked the rims, they were theme ok, and a nice little wider, in line with modern standards, so we re-used them

⚡We improved the ride

- a new modern high end Campagnolo groupset (compact/ 11 speed), that fits the new design theme well > silver accents

- better cockpit, modern compact handlebar in silver

- new bearings in head tube

- wheel servicing with a rebuild to the 11 speed Campa hub, in silver (!)

- better performing modern Dia Compe Cantilever brakes in chrome, with Koolstop pads for modern performance

- Tektro cantilever frame mount cable hanger for better performance

- modern 25mm folding tires with special blocked profile made by the famous Panaracer

⚡The finishing touch:

- we were able to re-use the original Gazelle head badge

- re-used some existing (chrome) parts, like the cool original Campagnolo seatpost (after refurbishing)

- fitted a lovely finished new stem

- removed the decals from the rims

- The secondary color of the new design theme (cream/beige) is used for the new saddle, handlebar tape and tire sidewall (and decals)

- SPD SL pedals in silver

- Klaassen signature bottle carrier in chrome

- lovely custom cable stops/ boss covers

RALEIGH RIALTO - URBAN CRUISER

~1979. This customer wanted us to give this lovely donor the Klaassen magic. The Raleigh had a boring and lame look at first with his rack, city bike handlebar & brakes and saddle.

So like always we started with a 'discover and uncover' session, taking a good look at the bike. We saw some lovely fenders in the color of the frame. We saw a great frame colour. We saw some cool oldskool Raleigh parts and we noticed the nice white accents in the decals and made that the new accent color for the Klaassen signature, working really well with the lovely blue. The owner is a sporty biker and we know the heritage of Raleigh so we wanted to show that sporty heritage a bit more in this bike.

In short:
After a thorough cleaning, we serviced all rotating parts, replaced the chain, removed the lights, dynamo & cable and bike rack. Less is more.

The wheels were a bit risky so a great opportunity for an upgrade to new ones with more profile (body/aero), in chrome finish!
We were able to make a handlebar shifter from the original downtube shifter (check the details). For that Klaassen signature with the white accents we mounted a cool new make of the iconic Selle San Marco Turbo. We mounted a more sporty (integrated) and stylish seatpost.
We fitted Michelin whitewall tires, mounted new white cable housings and handlebar tape. We managed to upgrade the lights to much cooler and better looking lights on to the original holes in the fenders.

For urban rebuilds another Klaassen signature is the handlebar setup with a moonbar and reversed brakes. Here it's the same story. To prolong the durability of bike joy we treated some paint chips with a rust stabilizer.

We finished it off with the official 'ByKlaassen' edition decal.

Early 2000's EDDY MERCKX GRAND PRIX BY KLAASSEN

RestoModding at its best for this almost 20 year old aluminium Eddy Merckx Grand Prix in XXL size.

In this Restomodding By Klaassen concept we work from our vision:

What we did:

-After inspecting the bike and it's parts we first make a new design from a 'total design' point of view, more holistic.

RESULTING IN

-a new characterful Klaassen frame color (here: mysterious metallic red in silk matt finish)

-bring more harmony in all the parts, with now the focus on black

-We redesigned the decal set > bring the original logo's back to an original but better looking version in 1 color (burgundy) > we simplified the decal set (less is more). A nice paradox here (big AND subtle): a large Brand logo but in outline and ton sur ton.

⚡We improved the ride

- a new modern high end Campagnolo groupset (compact/ 11 speed), with a lot of carbon parts, that fits the new design theme well > black accents

- new bearings in head tube

- lovely comfortable handlebar tape in a timeless look

⚡The finishing touch:

-we were able to re-use the original Merckx head badge

-re-used some existing (black) parts

-removed the decals from the rims

-fit a modern version of the iconic Selle San Marco Concor saddle with a cool black canvas finish

-the new decals have a special effect in changing light conditions (lighter/darker red)

CUSTOMER BIKE - KOGA GENSTRACER BY KLAASSEN

90's KOGA MIYATA GENTSRACER BY KLAASSEN -

A paintscheme & colour combination you won't see often, really cool with blue and purple transitions and those pink logo's.

There was an extra touch and challenge here.. This bike was left for dead for 20 years. The bike was packed under a thick and sticky layer of dust and other stuff.

▶Goal: make this bike great again so that the original owner will start riding it again, as a special motivational surprise gift (stimulate health). The paint was/is actually in great condition, just some light patina (traces of use).

▶So, as it had a characterful colouring from it's own we saw 2 original Black items as the unifying highlight color for a better total package. So we wanted to use as much as possible black parts, combined with chrome details. To make the frame standout more. And get a better total visual impact. And we aimed for a 1kg+ weight loss.

▶WHAT WE DID:

First, a thorough cleaning.. We found some nice Campagnolo Eurus wheels, with a Nice profile that matches the thin tubing of a steel frame. We removed the decals for that clean and right Klaassen look. We managed to score a nice black carbon Campagnolo compact crankset within the project budget. We kept the original black Koga seatpost and a black stem. Fitted a new BLACK compact style handlebar with better ergonomics. We went a bit further in the Italian tune up with the nice Pirelli P zero folding tires in a comfortable but fast 28mm.

New black cables, original Black Koga saddle, classic style black handlebar tape. We serviced and lubed all rotating parts.

So. We gave it more character AND performance. We gained 1,5 kg! And 3 extra gears with more modern shifting performance .

1997 CONCORDE STELVIO BY KLAASSEN

Again a great bike with potential in our opinion. Why? In his days it was leading with a standard carbon fork. Especially as the frame is from aluminum, this makes the base very interesting and in a way comparable with nowadays road bikes. The tubing visually is still subtle (no freaky shapes), so all looks like a nice classic bike, but with very modern elements.

The paint was/is in great condition, just some light patina (traces of use).

Visually the total could be better, stronger. The devil is in the details. So we opted for focussing on the existing chrome accents. It used to be a mix of chrome and black but we brought it back to more chrome (look at that beautiful stem we found! ). For this older bike we wanted to emphasise the classic element of it. So, the bike has an oldskool look but due to the high end aluminum frame, the modern H+Son wheels and the oldskool Profile carbon fork this bike rides really modern. We could have gone for Campagnolo Vento or Shamal wheels, but opted for these as these are lighter, wider, handbuilt AND 11 speed ready, so easier for group upgrades in the future! Ofcourse we thoroughly cleaned the bike, serviced components, topped it off with new Brooks classic handlebar tape, our signature bottle cage and extra light inner tubes.

We gave it a bit more character. Subtle but enough.

Champion Du Monde Urban Cruiser - By Klaassen

FALCON/JAN JANSSEN - URBAN CRUISER

Early seventies. A customer wanted us to create a sportive urban cruiser in our signature style.

We searched for the right donor. We found this beauty in a nice dark red. With nice white detailed lugs.

Because of the nice and high quality and beautiful oldskool parts we tried to keep it very original, we combined it with newskool parts that fitted the theme well. A true 'oldskool vs. newskool, best of both worlds' result.

After a thorough cleaning, we serviced all rotating parts, replaced the derailleur, the derailleur wheels, fitted new great suiting tan sidewall tires. Great fitting Italian fenders for that tight look, around the beautiful Panaracer Pasela Clinchers. We had to do some oldskool metal work there for a good fit.

We found a great looking new Sturmey Archer 5 speed handlebar shifter. We found 'the right' new moon bar, fitted very nice new reversed Dia Compe brakes. We checked and serviced/tuned the wheel spokes and bearings. Installed a cable clamp for the rear derailleur. Changed the inner and outer cables. Overhauled the bracket cable guide wheel. We converted the gearing to a 1x5, so we skipped the front derailleur, shifter and cable for a clean look and to save some weight. We finished it off with the famous Klaassen signature of matching tire sidewall color and handlebar tape and (Brooks) saddle and of course it got the laser cut leather signature 'ByKlaassen' (headtube).

1988 GAZELLE CHAMPION MONDIAL BY KLAASSEN

A great bike with potential in our opinion. Why? The frame was NOT in mint condition, as we wanted to create a bike that you dare to ride (with mint condition you often don't grab that collectors item). And it was not bend, not cracked and without butts! We wanted to create an oldskool vs. newskool riding machine, in a 'best of both worlds' kind of way. And because of it's Reynolds 531 tubing and competition heritage we wanted to keep it light, but now more characterfull, with more style.

So, we saw the white details on the frame as the unifying highlight color for a better total package. We restored the chrome elements, serviced alle rotating parts, upgraded to a 9 speed Ultegra groupset. Combined with a COMPACT crank in classic chrome look. We fitted the high performance Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels, as these had potential due to the chrome finish in the rim and the rim profile is not too high, important for us as visually the tubing and geometry with steel frames is 'thin'. There should be a visual balance there. But to make these wheels 'fit' in this theme we had to remove the decals (of course). We mounted a modern SOMA compact handlebar in classic chrome look. For better looks and way nicer hand positioning & riding (ergonomics).

We fitted new white cables, a white Ritchey Comp saddle & our signature handsewn Leather handlebar tape, handsewn with blue thread, white sidewall Michelin tires. We topped it off with our signature NeoClassic bottle carrier.
Now this is an oldskool racer you want to ride (every day)!

Mission for this customer: "this bike is a family piece, once bought new. It has not been used for years. I want to use it for the Alps." >>> So, we needed to replace a lot. And the customer likes the Klaassen style. So than our CharacterBoost comes in play. Both visually and technically this bike got a boost. From grey mouse we turned it into a head turning, characterful and smooth riding bike. We picked the red Koga decals as the highlight color for more unity and strength visually. We found unique FIR red wheels with Dura-Ace hubs. Upgraded the drivetrain to a nice 105 9 speed triple with the right crank arm length. We searched for the right red colored saddle and handlebar tape. We love red cables, if possible, so we fitted new red outer cables and new inner cables. We serviced all rotating parts, fitted new tubes and folding tires and replaced the visually disturbing black stem with a silver version. We topped it off with a new cassette and new chain

Koga Miyata Exerciser - By Klaassen

1991 KOGA MIYATA EXERCISER BY KLAASSEN

A great bike with potential in our opinion. Why? It was the similar type of bike our legendary Bauke Mollema rode as his first new bike in his junior years.

The paint was/is in great condition, just some light patina (traces of use).

After our infamous ' discover and uncover ' session we saw the white details on the frame as the unifying highlight color for a better total package.
We found some nice wheels with 105 hubs and serviced them. In a later stage (not on the photo) we gave it a special wheelset with higher profile at the rear. We picked these wheels as they have this aluminum look as it suits the groupset that had this grey aluminium look in stead of a chrome look.

New white cables, white saddle & handlebar tape, white sidewall Michelin tires. We serviced and lubed all rotating parts.

We gave it more character and style. Subtle but enough.

Diamant Multipurpose - By Klaassen

A MULTIPURPOSE SETUP, WITH STYLE.

A late 80's cyclocrosser from the legendary Belgian factory Diamant (cicli). Likely not from Martelly and probably made from Ishiwata ex tubing. With true battle scars. We helped him, giving more character and a multipurpose setup:
a new Soma wide gravelbike handlebar for more comfort and control, new Schwalbe wide - pretty allround - folding tires, stylish and great sitting Brooks saddle, even good for riding without bibshort, we fitted new brake hoods and pads and we gave it this nice subtle but little profiled black wheelset of Shimano to top the Klaassen style off. We fitted great looking black MKS pedals with subtle toe-clips, so you can ride it with normal shoes and still have the performance advantage. This bike is great to ride on road/off road, the urban scene, mountains. Ready to rock the modern world. Check out the nice details, like the authentic handlebar bar end shifters , the metallic purple paint and the beautiful crank.

NO NAME CARBON BIKE - 'ROCK DIVA'

Mission - Customer: ‘My bike lacks a bit character and style. And I like your leather hand sewn handlebar finish. And the brown/black tire. Give her a bit more attitude.’ We had a certain budget, so not everything was possible. But we gave it a bit more diva character by using the brown highlight color. We created a bit more visual calm by bringing the colors of the (white carbon) stem, handlebar and seatpost back together. This color can also be find in the spokes. So there is more visual unity in the whole bike, as a total package.
We call it ‘rock diva’. We changed saddle, seatpost, handlebar cover (handsewn), tires, lubed it, fixed the cyclo computer and topped it off with the ‘By Klaassen’ leather signature.

Late seventies. From barnfind to urban cruiser. Authenticity and originality was key.
After a thorough cleaning, we serviced all rotating parts, replaced the derailleur wheels, fitted new great suiting tan sidewall tires. We restored the original handlebar tape for that authentic look. We made the original saddle 'shine' again. We fitted a matching rear fender, with the right tight look and the right length.
